Biography
Amy Mahoney was recently featured in worldwide television broadcasts as the soprano soloist in The Birth of Christ, an oratorio filmed at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland, and narrated by Liam Neeson. The current season includes performances of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with the Atlanta Ballet, Frasquita in Carmen with Madison Opera, and guest soloist with the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra.
She made her New York debut playing the lead role in an off-Broadway production of Jerome Kern’s Oh, Lady! Lady! with Musicals Tonight, and was seen on Live from Lincoln Center performing with the New York Philharmonic in Camelot starring Gabriel Byrne and Marin Mazzie. Other recent engagements include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Adele in Die Fledermaus with Opera Southwest, Soprano soloist in Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle with the Michael O’Neal Singers, and Micaela in Carmen with the Bar Harbor Music Festival.
As a Young Artist, Ms. Mahoney performed the role of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with Seattle Opera and Peep-Bo in The Mikado with Portland Opera. She has sung solo works with symphony orchestras including the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, and the Port Angeles Symphony. She has also presented song recitals at the Governor’s Chamber Music Festival in Washington, Gallery Concerts, and the Northwest Chamber Orchestra. Her performance of the Vaughan-Williams Dona Nobis Pacem is included in Seattle Pro Musica’s CD entitled Peace in Our Time. Her interest in performing new works has twice led her to collaborate with the Seattle Chamber Players on works by John Zorn and Valentin Silvestrov.
Earning rave reviews, Ms. Mahoney appeared for several months as La Diva in Seattle’s acclaimed production of Teatro ZinZanni, hailed as “This city’s hottest ticket!” by the New York Times. Other favorite roles performed include The Prima Donna in Viva La Mamma (Tacoma Opera), Cunegonde in Candide (Eastside Musical Theater), Laurie in The Tender Land (Sun Valley Center for the Arts), Magnolia in Show Boat (Washington East Opera), Josephine in HMS Pinafore (Seattle Civic Light Opera) and Micaela in Carmen (Washington East Opera). She can be heard on Stage Stars’ recordings of Broadway musicals as Maria in The Sound of Music, Laurey in Oklahoma! and Lilli/Katharine in Kiss Me Kate. Twice a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, she was also a finalist in Portland Opera’s Lieber Awards.
